Gatwick Airport introduced the drop-off charge in March 2021. The drop-off zones at Gatwick Airport are operated by NCP, and done via Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. If you do not pay the drop-off charge, you will receive a Parking Charge Notice from NCP. They request that you must pay the Gatwick Airport Drop-Off PCN within 28 days, and you can receive a reduced payment if you pay within 14 days.

Gatwick Airport Drop-Off Charge
The Gatwick Airport drop-off charge is £5 for 10 minutes, £1 for each additional minute up to 20 minutes and a maximum of £25 for a maximum of 30 minutes. These rates are correct as of 2023.
Gatwick Airport Drop-Off Payment
You have up until midnight the next day to pay the fee, or you can setup an auto-pay account. There is nowhere physically at the airport to pay, so payment must be done via auto-pay or online.
If you are a blue badge holder, you are exempt from the drop-off charge. You just need to provide the airport with some information in advance of your arrival.
There is also a Local Commuter Scheme in place for residents living in specific postcodes (RH6 0, RH6 9 and RH11 0) for £50 a year which provide two free visits per day to the South Terminal Drop-Off Zone.
Forgot To Pay The Gatwick Drop-Off Charge?
You do have until midnight the next day to pay the drop-off charge. However, if you do forget to pay the Gatwick drop-off charge, NCP will issue a Parking Charge Notice by post for the sum of £100. It will be reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. These prices are correct as of 2023.
Appeal Gatwick Airport Drop-Off PCN
You can view, appeal and/or pay the Gatwick Airport Drop-Off PCN through the NCP Portal. You could attempt to appeal the penalty due to Schedule 4 of The Protection Of Freedoms Act (POFA). However, also be aware of land that is covered by byelaws, which some airports are, as the appeal may not be as straight forward. Professional legal help is always recommended if you are unsure.
How Do I Avoid Drop-Off Charges At Gatwick?
You can drop-off and pick up passengers for free at Gatwick Airport at the Long Stay Car Parks. You can get 2 hours free parking and a free 20 minute shuttle bus to the terminal. Just follow the signs for North Terminal Long Stay or South Terminal Long Stay depending on where your passenger is flying from.

It is recommended that to avoid a Gatwick Airport drop-off PCN to use one of their dedicated car parks. The 2023 rates for the Short Stay Car Park are:

Gatwick Parking Overstay Fees
